Four people now say they were harmed by this former lawyer — the same lawyer his own counsel placed in China. The material we have received since leads us to doubt that account. Over the past several months we have published a documented series on this file, including the article Where is David?, which set out the contradictory accounts filed under oath as to the whereabouts of this former lawyer.
We now count four people who say they were harmed by Me David Chun, formerly of the Westmount firm Spunt & Carin — the lawyer whom the counsel retained to defend him placed in China.
The video material and documents we have received from these new sources lead us to believe that he never left the country, contrary to what was stated in official documents filed in court by the counsel retained to defend him by the Fonds d’assurance responsabilité professionnelle du Barreau du Québec, the Bar’s professional liability insurance fund. They also lead us to believe that the Barreau’s Bureau du syndic — its disciplinary investigations office — may have buried the matter, as our earlier reporting on the report filed by Me Anne-France Goldwater already documented, and where the full set of documents is reproduced.
Me David Chun resigned from the Barreau du Québec on 5 February 2025, while an investigation by the Bureau du syndic was under way.
A file is currently open at the Office des professions du Québec, the body that oversees Quebec’s professional orders.
